{"id":113644,"date":"2025-04-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=113644"},"modified":"2025-04-17T16:21:14","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T06:21:14","slug":"artists-celebrated-at-artx-regional-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/artists-celebrated-at-artx-regional-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Artists celebrated at artX Regional 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GENU opened the doors to its 2025 artX Regional exhibition last week, where one local artist took home the top prize.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Deans was crowned the trophy winner at this year&#8217;s event for his piece Power House, which brought together his passions for infrastructure and drawing.<\/p>\n<p>His ability to take an ordinary subject and turn it into an exceptional piece of work was highlighted by the judges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ever since I was little, I would practice drawing buildings and power stations and control panels,&#8221; Deans said. &#8220;It&#8217;s my passion. I&#8217;ve always loved that kind of media.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113649\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-113649\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-113649\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/IMG_9362_81312_tn-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/IMG_9362_81312_tn-rotated.jpg 400w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/IMG_9362_81312_tn-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-113649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christian Den Besten was awarded the runner-up trophy for his work &#8216;Queenscliff QG.&#8217; Photo: ABBY PARDEW.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mum would take me to the factories like the Geelong Refinery and on tours of ships and that&#8217;s all the inspiration from there you see.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>artX Regional is held each year by genU, featuring works across a range of mediums from artists living with a disability or who have a history of mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>A record number of submissions were received this year, with 159 pieces of work entered into the competition. The runner-up title was awarded to Christian Den Besten for his work Queenscliff QG; Ella Dalli took out the highly commended award for Melting Happiness; and Mason Laurence was awarded the inaugural High Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<p>genU chief executive officer Clare Amies said the organisation was proud to host the annual showcase.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/VeraDeansartXRegiona_81347.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"447\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aaron Deans was awarded the First Prize Trophy for his &#8216;Power House&#8217; drawing. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the largest art exhibition in the Geelong region for people with disability, and continues to highlight diversity and inclusiveness,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know how important art and creativity is for people who take the time to submit to the exhibition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Amies encouraged people to head along to the exhibition and take the opportunity to find a unique piece of art for their homes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having an artX original will enrich any space in your office or home and create an interesting talking point, plus you&#8217;ll be supporting artists with disability, financially and creativity,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is open until April 24 at the Rachinger Gallery in the Eastern Hub Community Centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GENU opened the doors to its 2025 artX Regional exhibition last week, where one local artist took home the top prize.
