MEMBERS of the Geelong community will come together at Eastern Park this Sunday, May 4 for Fight Parkinson’s A Walk in the Park event.<\/p>\n

As Australia’s largest community event dedicated to improving the lives of people with the condition, event organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to join in.<\/p>\n

“Together we can make sure Parkinson’s is better understood and resourced to ensure everyone gets the support they deserve,” Fight Parkinson’s chief executive officer Emma Collin said.<\/p>\n

“When the community is united, they can empower each other to make a difference.<\/p>\n

“A Walk in the Park provides the perfect opportunity for people to walk together and fight together.”<\/p>\n

A Walk in the Park is designed to unite people living with Parkinson’s, their families, friends, caregivers and healthcare professionals while raising vital awareness and funds for the disease.<\/p>\n

Walkers will set off from 10.30am and make their way around the Eastern Park Circuit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Money raised through the event enables Fight Parkinson’s to deliver programs including advanced education, support services and resources that empower people with Parkinson’s and Atypical Parkinson’s.<\/p>\n

Parkinson’s is a neurological condition that can include symptoms such as stiffened muscles, slowing movement, resting tremors, speech changes and more.<\/p>\n

There is presently no cure, however, medication and support from healthcare professionals can manage symptoms.<\/p>\n

Official proceedings for the Geelong event will kick off at 9.30 am with speeches, live music and a coffee van before the walk at 10.30am from Eastern Park Circuit, followed by a free sausage sizzle.<\/p>\n

The 2024 event included around 300 people and raised more than $15,000 for Fight Parkinson’s.<\/p>\n
