{"id":114183,"date":"2025-05-01T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-30T18:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=114183"},"modified":"2025-04-30T21:44:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T11:44:22","slug":"geelong-communities-pause-for-anzac-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-communities-pause-for-anzac-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong communities pause for Anzac Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANZAC Day services across the Geelong region brought the community together on Friday last week as several services took place in honour of all who served in war.<\/p>\n<p>Wet conditions started the morning, but were not a deterrent for people who attended dawn services and marches around the region.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/edited_4AAFCadetsget_95211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Australian Airforce Cadets preparing to march.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Geelong RSL Sub-Branch started its run of five services with a pre-dawn event at Johnstone Park, followed by the Dawn Service on Eastern Beach and at the Boer War Memorial.<\/p>\n<p>At 11am, the march stepped off from Malop Street and made its way to Johnstone Park for the main service at 11.30am.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/edited_39_95197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the public lined the streets as the march made its way past.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Servicemen and women participated in the march alongside veterans and non-service individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Local, state and federal representatives also attended the service including Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, who addressed attendees.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/04\/edited_35_95225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The service was attended by representatives of state, local and federal governments, including Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Norlane hosted a Dawn Service at 6am, which was followed by the march at 9.30am.<\/p>\n<p>Services were also held in Lara, while Geelong&#8217;s City Hall featured projections across the weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANZAC Day services across the Geelong region brought the community together on Friday last week as several services took place in honour of all who served in war.
