THE federal Coalition has pledged to invest in skills training as a key part of their plan to deliver more affordable homes if it wins the election this Saturday, May 3.<\/p>\n
Under the election commitment, a Dutton Government would establish a national network of Australian Technical Colleges, beginning with an investment of $260 million to deliver the first 12.<\/p>\n
\u201cLabor\u2019s signature housing policies have failed to deliver a single additional home,\u201d Wannon Liberal federal member Dan Tehan said on Tuesday this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the same time, Labor has brought in one million additional people in two years \u2014 making housing unaffordable for many young Australians.<\/p>\n
\u201cIncreasing housing supply is an important part of delivering more affordable homes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis investment will ensure we have the skills and workforce to do exactly that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The announcement follows the Liberals\u2019 commitment to set a target of 400,000 apprentices and trainees in training.<\/p>\n
As an incentive, small and medium businesses will be offered $12,000 to put on and train a new apprentice or trainee.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want more young people to take up a trade, build a great career and contribute to our national success,\u201d Mr Tehan said.<\/p>\n
