GROVEDALE survived a late poster from Thomson to continue their winning streak in AFL Barwon female football Division 1 at the weekend.<\/p>\n
The undefeated Tigers won 3.5 (23) to 3.2 (20) at home and will play ninth-placed Anglesea on May 25 in Round 6 after their bye.<\/p>\n
“So if it goes through, they get over the top of us, even though we led all day,” Grovedale coach Paul Price said of the dying moments.<\/p>\n
“The shot that they took was under pressure and but it could have floated through.<\/p>\n
“We watched it go through the air and weren’t sure until it actually hit the post… that was probably about a minute and a half to go.”<\/p>\n
Price said the Tigers’ defenders stood up in the final 15 minutes to repel Thomson’s forward entries.<\/p>\n
He said the group would continue to work on its ball movement and foster the development of its exciting, young players.<\/p>\n
“We’re probably not quite as strong in the front half at the moment and scoring as well as what we’d like to,” Price said.<\/p>\n
In terms of injuries, the Tigers are without 2024 premiership player Jorja Kirsopp-Cole who broke a bone in the back of her hand against St Joseph’s in round 4.<\/p>\n
Price said she would likely be out for six to eight weeks. The Tigers have also had several players unavailable due to VFLW commitments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
