A week after the idea for a choir struck her late one night, she was invited by the Poa Banyul team to start one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a sign that people need community and wanted a place to come, because singing is so therapeutic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Since its launch, the Melody Makers choir has received an enthusiastic response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had so many beautiful people in the community reach out and thank me for the space that\u2019s been created for them to sing,\u201d Ms Rowan said.<\/p>\n<p>Poa Banyul Community Hub Team Leader Anthony Stary said the choir had helped strengthen the centre\u2019s role as a community focal point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aim here at the hub is to be the heart of our community and the choir, along with our other regular bookings, has really highlighted what our purpose is here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The hub, managed by Meli, also offers dance, taekwondo, language and fitness classes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s become apparent is how important the choir \u2013 along with all the other community activities that happen in our spaces \u2013 have become for many of the participants who are connecting with others with the same interest,\u201d Mr Stary said.<\/p>\n<p>More information about today\u2019s event is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meli.org.au\">meli.org.au.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOCALS are invited to explore the Poa Banyul Community Hub in Mount Duneed at an Open Day from 3pm today, with free coffee, face painting and a chance to experience the programs bringing the neighbourhood together.
