{"id":114936,"date":"2025-05-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=114936"},"modified":"2025-05-22T10:13:03","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T00:13:03","slug":"geelong-racing-turns-pink-for-breast-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-racing-turns-pink-for-breast-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong racing turns pink for breast cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Harness Racing Club came alive on Friday last week with the return of Dine For Pink.<\/p>\n<p>The club runs the annual event in conjunction with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) to raise awareness within the community and support the association&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside ticket sales, a live auction, raffle and BCNA merchandise also raised money for the cause.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Harness Racing Club general manager Joe Fiala said it was a sell-out event with more than 140 tickets sold.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/05\/Picture2_70614.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"517\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guest speakers Mr. Conrad Brandt, Daniela Damevska, Nicole Riddle and Mr. Joshua Lin.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a fantastic night, everyone got behind it, all of our live auction sold and we had heaps of silent auction [prizes] donated which raised lots of funds for BCNA,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Guest speakers for the evening were Conrad Brandt, Dr Joshua Lin, and cancer survivors Daniela Damevska and Nicole Riddle.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main goals for the event was to raise awareness around the early signs of cancer and what to look for when getting checked; a message Mr Fiala said he felt they got across.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone was very engaged when we spoke and there was a really good engagement by the people that were there,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/05\/Picture3_70632.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 140 people headed along for the annual event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had Joshua and Conrad, you could hear a pin drop in the room when they spoke, which was great.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[They spoke] about early detection, awareness, how to carry out a breast examination and the importance of just being aware of your body.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Fiala said the club was looking forward to hosting the event again next year and making it bigger and better.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a bit more momentum, everyone was pretty keen to join in next year and for a great cause,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Harness Racing Club came alive on Friday last week with the return of Dine For Pink.
