{"id":115269,"date":"2025-05-29T04:00:22","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T18:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=115269"},"modified":"2025-05-28T17:04:26","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T07:04:26","slug":"early-pre-season-fuels-surf-coast-fcs-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/early-pre-season-fuels-surf-coast-fcs-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Early pre-season fuels Surf Coast FC&#8217;s success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SURF Coast FC men&#8217;s team has adjusted to its new competition superbly after being promoted.<\/p>\n<p>The second-ranked Coasters have seven wins from nine matches in the State League Men&#8217;s 3 North-West competition.<\/p>\n<p>They play Epping City away tomorrow (Saturday, May 31) at 3pm after beating Laverton 2-1 at home last weekend in Round 9.<\/p>\n<p>Senior coordinator Tom Langman shared his thoughts on why the team had made such a smooth transition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We started pre-season very early, we started back in November and I think we&#8217;ve been able to keep that group together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And a lot of that goes down to the players and the coaches and all the work they&#8217;ve done in that pre-season period.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We won our first five games and that really set us up for this position we&#8217;re in at the moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the Coasters appear to be thriving, Langman said the competition was a step up from last season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we found out, this year, if we don&#8217;t have a good game, we get punished for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/05\/0X4A8219_78312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"726\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Surf Coast FC&#8217;s Marcus Trupkovic looks upfield.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Their only loss came against fifth-placed Brunswick Zebras, 5-1, on May 3.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was probably our worst performance for the season and they capitalised on that,&#8221; Langman said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were clinical in front of goal and being at their home ground, they played the conditions to their advantage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite an interrupted pre-season, John Pykett has scored the most goals in the league with 12.<\/p>\n<p>Langman said Pykett broke his ankle last year before returning late in the season and suffering a serious foot injury.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He only really returned probably three weeks before the start of the year, but he&#8217;s been our top goal scorer the last two seasons and he&#8217;s continued that form this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SURF Coast FC men&#8217;s team has adjusted to its new competition superbly after being promoted.
