{"id":115410,"date":"2025-05-31T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=115410"},"modified":"2025-05-31T10:33:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-31T00:33:59","slug":"lego-lovers-delight-to-land-in-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/lego-lovers-delight-to-land-in-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"LEGO lovers&#8217; delight to land in Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEGO enthusiasts of all ages will have the opportunity to surround themselves with the coloured blocks when the Geelong Brick Show lands in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by Playwell Events, the June 7 and 8 show will feature around 40 tables of custom-built LEGO models on display alongside interactive models and play tables.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will also include a variety of themes ranging from Star Wars and Marvel through to a huge city layout.<\/p>\n<p>For Playwell Events owner Graham Draper, it will be the first time he has brought his show to Geelong, with a recent trip to Ballarat behind the visit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/05\/r0_274_5352_3295_w12_10142.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"339\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mr Draper said he has a focus on taking shows into regional areas, that would otherwise miss out.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I get visitors to the show that sometimes travel quite far and some people said &#8216;Bring it to Geelong, we&#8217;d love to have you down here&#8217; and it was just that mention,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just hope to see as many people as possible travelling down to Geelong; I think it&#8217;s probably the furthest I&#8217;ve ever travelled.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Draper started hosting the exhibitions eight years ago and during COVID decided to make it his full-time job, with a focus on doing shows in regional locations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just a passion to see the responses from people that don&#8217;t really know what LEGO is about these days or how much it&#8217;s changed,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Young kids absolutely love it, it&#8217;s something that I enjoy doing. I&#8217;ve been able to make a business out of it now and getting around to these new areas that don&#8217;t otherwise get LEGO exhibitions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Parents and other adults will also be well entertained at the show, with some pieces expected to prompt conversations around how LEGO has evolved.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/05\/423944404_1390992414_10097.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"858\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The exhibition will feature around 40 tables for custom-built LEGO and interactive models.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of the creations aren&#8217;t really child focused. One of the models I will bring down is a 65,000-piece model of the Notre Dame in Paris and so people can really appreciate the time that&#8217;s gone into it to build it,&#8221; Mr Draper said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s something for everyone \u2013 a lot of the older generations love to have a story about how much LEGO has changed over the years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The show will run from 10am until 4pm each day.
