{"id":115435,"date":"2025-05-29T07:11:55","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T21:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/torquay-cup-raises-funds-for-all-aboard\/"},"modified":"2025-05-29T07:11:55","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T21:11:55","slug":"torquay-cup-raises-funds-for-all-aboard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/torquay-cup-raises-funds-for-all-aboard\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay Cup raises funds for All Aboard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANOTHER big crowd gathered at the Geelong Racecourse on Friday last week for the 13th running of the <em>Surf Coast Times<\/em> Torquay Cup.<\/p>\n<p>The annual race day is one of Torquay&#8217;s biggest social occasions and drew a crowd of more than 300 to the Geelong Racing Club&#8217;s Briseis Grandstand for lunch, drinks, socialising and the odd flutter.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_162514\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162514\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-162514\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/05\/0G2A9105_45910-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-162514\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/>Shubael, ridden by jockey Jake Noonan, wins the Torquay Cup at Geelong Racecourse.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Geelong Racing Club president Peter Murrihy welcomed the crowd, and noted the Torquay Cup had raised more than $150,000 for 12 different not-for-profit groups over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a credit to those in the room &#8211; I think I say this every year &#8211; but Torquay must shut down and put the \u2018closed\u2019 sign up, so it&#8217;s kudos to everyone here that continues to turn up year after year.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_162515\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162515\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-162515\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/05\/tc-wrap-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-162515\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corey, Georgi, Jim and Jason.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This year&#8217;s Torquay Cup was again a fundraiser for All Aboard disABILTY Support Services, which will primarily put the money towards its project The Junction, \u201ca one stop shop\u201d for disability and support services.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 event raised an even $10,000 for All Aboard and this year&#8217;s event just surpassed it with a total of $10,500.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_162516\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162516\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-162516\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/05\/tc-wrap-1-1024x538.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-162516\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Linda, Tracie, Dawn, Karen, Mandy, Deb, Vanessa and Pam.
