SERVICE providers will fill the Geelong West Town Hall on Friday, June 20 for Geelong’s Community Disability Expo.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Disability Events Community (DEC), the free expo connects people living with disability, their families, guardians and support workers with local services, all under the one roof.<\/p>\n

Running as a national event, this year will mark the second expo to take place in Victoria and the first for Geelong.<\/p>\n

DEC director Leigh Hunter said they focus their expos on the areas that their network tells them it requires.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a very large network nationally and we definitely take on some feedback that we do get given and we do focus on the areas our network work within.<\/p>\n

“Geelong is a large NDIS participant base, so we were asked if we would come to Geelong, to which [we said] ‘Of course, absolutely’.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got quite a few on our list for Victoria, but we definitely want to get Geelong done as one of the first ones for Victoria.”<\/p>\n

The Disability Events Community hosts expos around the country.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The DEC is focused on bringing the expos to the communities that require them the most and is conscious about the locations they are held at, always ensuring they are accessible.<\/p>\n

Service providers at the Geelong event will range from plan managers, allied health professionals, call providers and more, ensuring there is a good mix of people to provide information.<\/p>\n

People heading along can bring their NDIS questions and have them answered in real time and chat to the different experts in the room.<\/p>\n

“It’s a really good opportunity for everyone that comes along, to come and see what services are in your local community,” Ms Hunter said.<\/p>\n

“It’s a good opportunity for you to come to one place, where everyone is rather than spending your time travelling all around Geelong trying to find different services that could suit you.”<\/p>\n
