{"id":116260,"date":"2025-06-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=116260"},"modified":"2025-06-24T08:55:28","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T22:55:28","slug":"leisure-networks-secures-610k-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/leisure-networks-secures-610k-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Leisure Networks secures $610k grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEISURE Networks has secured $610,000 in renewed funding from the Victorian government\u2019s Together More Active \u2013 Sector Capability Building program, reinforcing its role in making community sport across the Barwon region more inclusive, welcoming, and resilient.<\/p>\n<p>As the Regional Sports Assembly for Barwon, Leisure Networks has championed grassroots clubs, volunteers, and under-represented groups through innovative, community-driven initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>This latest round of support will allow the organisation to continue its work with a strong focus on Access for All Abilities and strengthening club capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong MP Christine Couzens visited Leisure Networks on Thursday last week to deliver the good news, and praised Leisure Networks for its ongoing impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding will enable the Leisure Networks team to expand and continue supporting participation in sport and active recreation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeelong is lucky to have such a dedicated organisation offering <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/leisure-networks-signs-inclusive-partnership\/\">inclusive opportunities for all<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the next two years, the funding will empower Leisure Networks to support local clubs and sporting communities in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing equity, inclusion, and diversity<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening safety, integrity, governance, and leadership<\/li>\n<li>Building the sport and active recreation workforce, including volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing club capability and sustainability, and<\/li>\n<li>Meeting the growing demand for outdoor and active recreation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leisure Networks chief executive officer David Meade welcomed the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to keep working alongside clubs and leagues to build stronger, more <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/leisure-networks-close-in-on-state-honours\/\">inclusive sporting communities<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding helps us continue driving meaningful change so that people of all abilities feel welcome, valued, and connected through sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leisure Networks is already leading the way in inclusive sport, having helped launch successful all abilities competitions in AFL, netball, and basketball.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation also delivers school gala days, active recreation programs, and other <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/powerful-pedal-program-to-expand\/\">accessible initiatives<\/a> that encourage participation at every level.<\/p>\n<p>Conversations are now under way with local cricket and soccer organisations to expand these efforts and introduce new all abilities competitions, which will create more pathways for everyone to get involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEISURE Networks has secured $610,000 in renewed funding from the Victorian government\u2019s Together More Active \u2013 Sector Capability Building program, reinforcing its role in making community sport across the Barwon region more inclusive, welcoming, and resilient.
