Geelong young gun Ollie Dempsey has signed a four year contract extension, committing to the Cats until the end of 2029.<\/p>\n
The 22 year old wingman has enjoyed a breakout 2024 season, playing every match including Geelong\u2019s two Finals appearances. After playing just seven games across his first two seasons at the club, Dempsey has become a consistent presence in the Cats\u2019 senior side.<\/p>\n
Originally selected in the 2021 rookie draft, Dempsey returned to football after spending his teenage years playing basketball. His strong marking, forward craft and running capacity have made him one of the most exciting young players in the AFL.<\/p>\n
Dempsey\u2019s 2024 campaign was highlighted by winning the AFL Rising Star award, becoming the first Geelong player to claim the honour since Joel Selwood in 2007. He has now played 41 consecutive games and continues to build on his strong form in 2025.<\/p>\n
From 15 games this season, Dempsey has kicked 22 goals, the second most by a midfielder or wingman across the AFL. Only Jeremy Cameron has kicked more goals for Geelong this year, with 48.<\/p>\n
Cats Executive General Manager Football Andrew Mackie said the club was thrilled to have secured Dempsey for the long term.<\/p>\n
