FREE two-hour parking will soon be available across central Geelong in an effort to support local business and revitalise the region.<\/p>\n

Community members and visitors are set to receive free parking in all 2P on-street spaces from July 14.<\/p>\n

The council adopted the initiative as part of its 2025-26 Budget, with the decision backed by suggestions given in its recent Central Geelong Revitalisation Forum.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the city was excited to roll out the weekday initiative this month.<\/p>\n

“We’ve listened to feedback from businesses, shoppers and residents who say they would benefit from a free parkinginitiative in central Geelong,” Mayor Kontelj said.<\/p>\n

“We want to make parking in the heart of our region easier by helping community members save money and boosting foot traffic for local businesses.<\/p>\n

“This will be a great step forward for our economy and liveability.”<\/p>\n

Free parking will only apply to on-street 2P parking bays, and time limits will continue to apply.<\/p>\n

Each vehicle will be eligible for a single allocation of free parking in 2P bays per day.<\/p>\n

To be eligible, drivers will be required to start a parking session at the parking meter of through the EasyPark app, but there will be no charge.<\/p>\n

Cr Eddy Kontelj said the decision followed years of community encouragement, lobbying and advocacy.<\/p>\n

“It is immensely satisfying that Council has demonstrated such commitment to making the city more affordable and enjoyable to visit.<\/p>\n

“We really believe this measure will improve convenience and accessibility for the community when they visit central Geelong.<\/p>\n

“This decision supports shoppers, families and visitors by giving them two hours to shop, dine, run errands, meet with friends or see an exhibition without having to worry about parking fees.”<\/p>\n

Parking across the municipality remains free in all zones between 5.30pm and 9am and on weekends.<\/p>\n
