Harriet was over the moon to win.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/AYCMC11_13843.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Runners-up Matthew Kweh (Grade 11), Joyce Qin (Grade 6) and winner Harriet Carter-Williams (Grade 10) from Geelong College.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I definitely wasn&#8217;t expecting to be chosen for this award as everyone played so beautifully, so it made hearing my name be called even more special,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It felt so nice for my music to be appreciated on that level, and I was so exhilarated that the judges and audience enjoyed my performance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She praised the school for its supportive and welcoming music community, where she has made some of her closest friends.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/AYCMC3_13847.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harriet Carter-Williams playing the cello at the finals. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love seeing everyone have a crack and enjoy the music we make together and the teachers are so helpful and provide lots of fun opportunities to perform in various settings, which are great for becoming more confident and comfortable with concerts,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The college&#8217;s director of music Scott Templeton said Harriet was an impressive young musician.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She has worked incredibly hard to maximise her talents, and her success is a just reward for her dedication.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/HarrietintheFoundati_46272.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harriet Carter-Williams playing the cello in the Foundation Concert last year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What was so impressive about her performance was the musical maturity in such a demanding piece from such a young performer in Year 10, as well as the joy that exudes from Harriet when she is playing cello.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of Geelong College is proud of Harriet&#8217;s achievement, along with those of Matthew and Joyce, who were both runners up.
