{"id":117077,"date":"2025-07-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=117077"},"modified":"2025-07-03T14:48:36","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T04:48:36","slug":"gold-medals-for-the-gordon-at-worldskills-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/gold-medals-for-the-gordon-at-worldskills-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold medals for The Gordon at WorldSkills nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Gordon TAFE had two gold medal winners at the recent WorldSkills National competition in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>The national championships are Australia&#8217;s biggest vocational education and excellence competition, where students compete against their industry peers from around the country.<\/p>\n<p>Floristry student Charlotte Follett, who is mentored by Dayne Robinson, and Mechatronics student Arnold Shanahan, who mentored by Andy Heath, claimed the top honours.<\/p>\n<p>Follett is a past Bellarine Secondary College student, who is undertaking her apprenticeship at Jacinta&#8217;s Flower Studio in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>The Gordon also secured four bronze and three Medallions of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Students were prepared, calm and professional &#8211; a true testament of the fabulous mentoring and coaching from our teachers\/mentors,&#8221; the Gordon stated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A very big thank-you to the staff involved for their magnificent support and guidance over the last few months and throughout the competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Congratulations go to our 10 students who competed in the event in Brisbane across eight different categories against in excess of 600 competitors across 63 skill areas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/07\/Bronzemedalwinners_74076.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Gordon took out two gold, four Bronze and three Medallions of Excellence.
