ROADWORKS at the corner of Armstrong Creek’s Horseshoe Bend and Boundary Road are still awaiting completion, with the new traffic lights yet to be switched on.<\/p>\n
The traffic lights, once switched on, will replace the roundabout currently in use, making traffic flow easier, as road usage is predicted to increase.<\/p>\n
The developer has completed the civil infrastructure works in line with their timelines, however activating the signals has two final steps.<\/p>\n
The steps must be carried out by two external authorities and involve the site being energised by Powercor and the installation and commissioning of the traffic signal controller by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP.)<\/p>\n
City of Greater Geelong executive director of infrastructure James Stirton said while the city cannot prioritise the works, it is actively engaging with the relevant agencies to advocate for completion as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
“We’ve been following up on these final steps and understand that DTP is currently planning to commission the signals on Monday, July 7, following Powercor’s energisation of the site on Friday, June 27.<\/p>\n
“We appreciate the community’s patience and will continue to advocate for timely completion of the final step to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the intersection.”<\/p>\n
As part of the DTP policy, mains power must be connected to the site before the department can move forward with controller installation and signal activation.<\/p>\n
Powercor provides a six-month window for electricity connection.<\/p>\n
Roads around the area are being upgraded as part of the Armstrong Creek Growth Area Plan, with works involving signalising the busy intersection.<\/p>\n
Works along Horseshoe Bend have also required a full road rebuild and new pedestrian paths.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
