THE region will celebrate the return of this year’s Geelong Nature Festival with a Family Fun Day tomorrow (Saturday, July 12) at the historic Fyansford Paper Mill.<\/p>\n

Launched by the City of Greater Geelong, the free event celebrates the unique natural environment with interactive displays, guided walks, creative workshops and leading environmental voices.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the festival celebrates the region’s natural beauty.<\/p>\n

“The Geelong Nature Festival is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature, learn from experts and celebrate the incredible biodiversity we have right here in our backyard.<\/p>\n

“We’re proud to support events that inspire the next generation of nature champions.”<\/p>\n

The Family Fun Day will begin with a Welcome to Country and presentations from Dr Kylie Soanes, Tania Moloney and Bec Benini.<\/p>\n

Activities will run from 10am until 2pm and include wildlife encounters, children’s nature play, arts and crafts and more.<\/p>\n

Highton Rotary will also offer tours of the historic Paper Mill while the city’s Nature Reserves team and the Friends of Buckley Falls lead three river walks and planting sessions.<\/p>\n

Following the Family Fun Day, the next two weeks will include more than 50 events across the region before concluding on National Tree Day on July 27.<\/p>\n

Cr Elise Wilkinson, chair of the Environment and Circular Economy portfolio said the festival is a reflection on the city’s commitment to sustainability and community connection.<\/p>\n

“Geelong Nature Festival brings the community together to celebrate and care for our environment.<\/p>\n

“It’s all about making sustainability something we live and breathe every day, in ways that are fun, impactful and inclusive.<\/p>\n
