{"id":117373,"date":"2025-07-16T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=117373"},"modified":"2025-07-10T13:46:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T03:46:34","slug":"spirit-iv-starts-epic-journey-to-tasmania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/spirit-iv-starts-epic-journey-to-tasmania\/","title":{"rendered":"Spirit IV starts epic journey to Tasmania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE <em>Spirit of Tasmania IV<\/em> is expected to arrive in Tasmania in late August after departing Leith in Scotland for the 14,857-nautical-mile journey last week.<\/p>\n<p>The 212m, 48,000-gross-tonne ship, which will eventually form part of the regular ferry service between Geelong and Devonport, left Leith on June 30.<\/p>\n<p>The ferry will travel via Gibraltar, Cape Verde Islands, Cape Town in South Africa, Port Louis in Mauritius and Fremantle.<\/p>\n<p>It is required to stay in Fremantle for four days for vessel importation, customs and immigration formalities, a crew change, bunkers and fresh stores.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/07\/SpirtofTas2_73821.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TT-Line chief executive officer Chris Carbone said <em>Spirit IV<\/em> was expected to complete the trip to Fremantle in about six weeks, weather conditions permitting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We expect the vessel will be alongside in Hobart in late August for the final fit-out of items including Tasmanian-made mattresses and table tops, cabin stores and artwork, and to undertake vessel crew training,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The training for our crew involves emergency response exercises, passenger muster simulation, firefighting drills, deployment of lifeboats and the mass evacuation systems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>TT-Line became the ship&#8217;s owner last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Spirit of Tasmania IV is expected to arrive in Tasmania in late August after departing Leith in Scotland for the 14,857-nautical-mile journey last week.
