ARMSTRONG United has beaten Barwon Heads thanks to an 85th minute goal in the clubs\u2019 annual Community Cup soccer match.<\/p>\n
Now in its fifth year, the match spurs from the Barwon Heads Community Bank sponsoring and offering great support for both clubs.<\/p>\n
Sponsors of the clubs were invited to the game to celebrate the support and embrace the enjoyment is has brought to the community.<\/p>\n
In the Geelong Senior Men\u2019s division two game, Caleb Watts was the hero for United on Friday last week at Barwon Heads Village Park.<\/p>\n
The bank donates $500 to the winning team of the night for them to donate to a charity of choice. On Friday, United chose Our Village (formerly Geelong Mums)<\/p>\n
Our Village provides resources to vulnerable babies and children to ensure their safety and assist healthcare workers.<\/p>\n
Barwon Heads soccer club president Bec Dalton said the night was a success both on and off the field, despite their close loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cFriday\u2019s game was a great match.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt looked like it was going to be a draw until the last few minutes when Armstrong scored to win.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to this match (continuing as) an annual fixture as both teams can celebrate the support of the Community Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n
The $500 donation made by the Barwon Heads Community Cup is just one of the many contributions the bank has made in the local area, having donated $1.3 million over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n
