GEELONGPORT has jumped on board as a silver donor of the Give Where You Live Foundation, supporting its work to create a fairer, more equitable Geelong community.<\/p>\n
The partnership represents a shared commitment to making a meaningful impact across the G21 region at a time when food insecurity and homelessness are on the rise.<\/p>\n
It builds on a long-standing relationship between GeelongPort and the Give Where You Live Foundation, which began in 1984.<\/p>\n
The foundation’s latest research Food for Thought highlights the growing challenges faced by food relief agencies in the Greater Geelong area, with demand for support increasing as cost-of-living pressures increase.<\/p>\n
Every week, Geelong’s food relief sector is supporting 8,751 people, providing over 34,000 meals, 2,372 food parcels and distributing 23,000 kilograms of food.<\/p>\n
The equivalent of one full shipping container of food is being used each week to help Geelong families struggling to put food on the table.<\/p>\n
Give Where You Live Foundation chief executive officer Zac Lewis said these powerful statistics highlight the urgency of support and the important role organisations like Geelong Port play in meeting those needs.<\/p>\n
“Knowing that this much food is needed just to meet current demand is a powerful image and a stark reminder of the challenges so many in our community are facing.<\/p>\n
“This new partnership with GeelongPort will help the foundation in our work to support more people who need it most.”<\/p>\n
GeelongPort CEO Brett Winter said it was important to support the foundation’s active role in the community.<\/p>\n
“Working together we can address the pressing issues of food insecurity and help those who need it most.<\/p>\n
