{"id":118032,"date":"2025-07-30T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=118032"},"modified":"2025-07-24T13:12:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T03:12:20","slug":"dont-forget-this-spellbinding-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/dont-forget-this-spellbinding-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t forget this spellbinding fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A DAZZLING fundraising event will light up Geelong next month with a goal of raising significant funds for dementia research.<\/p>\n<p>The Forget Me Not Ball returns to 1915 in North Geelong on August 30 with a spellbinding Romeo and<\/p>\n<p>Juliet theme.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its second year, the event has quickly become one of Geelong&#8217;s most sophisticated and talked about social fundraisers.<\/p>\n<p>It will feature live music, surprise performances, decadent food, flowing cocktails, plus a room full of modern romance.<\/p>\n<p>Every cent raised will go directly toward supporting dementia research and clinical trials in Geelong in partnership with Barwon Health and Deakin University.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/FMNCommitee2024Matth_19109.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"533\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Forget Me Not committee are ready for another huge event this August.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Barwon Health Foundation executive director Zoe Water said the foundation was delighted to be behind the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are so grateful to this group of local people who are putting their efforts into fundraising while also supporting parents living with dementia or suffering the grief of losing a parent to the disease.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are proud to provide them with the structure to make a difference locally through our foundation.&#8221; \u200b\u200b \u200b \u200b<\/p>\n<p>Founded by a group of Geelong locals with personal experience navigating the heartbreak of dementia in their own families, the Forget Me Not committee is on a mission to transform grief into action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re not researchers, but we&#8217;re daughters, sons and grandchildren who wanted to do something meaningful,&#8221; co-founder Kate Ward said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dementia has touched our families &#8211; now we&#8217;re fighting back with community, compassion and a little bit of chaos on the dancefloor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 401px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/DXD010-ForgetMeNot-2_19106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"602\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The dazzling cocktail event has quickly become one of Geelong&#8217;s most sophisticated and talked-about social fundraisers.
