{"id":118050,"date":"2025-07-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=118050"},"modified":"2025-07-23T17:09:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T07:09:41","slug":"celebrating-a-decade-of-artistic-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/celebrating-a-decade-of-artistic-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating a decade of artistic support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ART Gusto is celebrating a decade of fostering creative talent and providing a supportive art studio in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The Geelong group is a place where disabled and neurodivergent artists can get together and practice their craft with access to qualified and experienced artists.<\/p>\n<p>Art Gusto founder Sharon Bromley said she started the group after being approached by some parents who asked if it was something she could create.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We started with about six artists and then parents have kept supporting me and the artists, but we&#8217;ve formed a committee called the Friends of Art Gusto,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The artists have a bank account, separate to me, that the committee run and they can self-fund their exhibitions and different projects in a collaborative way through commissions from art sales.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/IMG_0467_45990.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marioan East, Sharon Bromley and Celia Adams are part of the team behind Art Gusto.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the past decade, the program has grown slightly, however the group has been conscious in keeping it small, ensuring they remain flexible and are still available to the artists.<\/p>\n<p>Art Gusto has about19 participants now, with Ms Bromley saying she has seen huge improvements in those who have gone through with her, both socially and with lifelong learning.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Bromley said she can&#8217;t believe it&#8217;s been 10 years of Art Gusto and it has been a really enjoyable time for her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I enjoy seeing what the artists do, I love seeing all the successes that they have, it&#8217;s just got a lot of positive reasons,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a really relaxed environment and we&#8217;re working with some artists that have really committed to their work, they&#8217;re all really hard working.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_118054\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118054\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-118054\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/IMG_0457_45924-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/IMG_0457_45924-1-rotated.jpg 800w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/IMG_0457_45924-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/IMG_0457_45924-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/IMG_0457_45924-1-768x1152.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-118054\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Art Gusto founder Sharon Bromley thanked everyone for their support in the group.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the artists, they also feel grateful for the program, helping them to improve their skills.<\/p>\n<p>One artist said it was a wonderful program that has helped them get their art out there and into exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of the artists have got all sorts of different opportunities socially as well, it&#8217;s been really good, they&#8217;ve made lovely friendships, they&#8217;re taken beyond the studio,&#8221; Ms Bromley said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s also given them workplace skills, to be able to come where it is like a workspace, they come and have some sharing time and work with others and all of the normal things you do in the workplace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Artists and Art Gusto marked the 10th anniversary with a small celebration on Saturday at Platform Arts, where they gave out awards and thanked everyone involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ART Gusto is celebrating a decade of fostering creative talent and providing a supportive art studio in the region.
