PORT ADELAIDE veteran and Torquay local hero Travis Boak’s time in the AFL is nearly over, with the 37-year-old expected to retire at the end of this season.<\/p>\n
Boak has played 384 games for the Power so far and will reach 387 – ranking him seventh in all-time AFL\/VFL games – if he runs out in each of the last three home and away games.<\/p>\n
He reportedly told his team-mates earlier today (Tuesday, August 5) and Port Adelaide have announced a press conference for 1.30pm AEST.<\/p>\n
The Power took Boak with pick five in the 2006 draft, not long after his father, Torquay Tigers legend Roger Boak, died of cancer.<\/p>\n
He captained the club from 2013 to 2018, and has won three All-Australian blazers and two John Cahill Medals as Port Adelaide’s best and fairest<\/p>\n
Boak has battled with injury this year but has played in the Power’s past three games, and the club had previously been open to the prospect of him playing in 2026.<\/p>\n
Football manager Chris Davies said last month the club would still have “a fair amount of say” if a decision had to be made, but noted the former captain’s return to form.<\/p>\n
“Travis has had more battles with injury and fatigue this year – it will be an interesting conversation to have,” Davies said.<\/p>\n
“Again, he is playing some reasonable footy.<\/p>\n
“Clearly, Travis is playing good enough footy at the moment to continue on for the rest of this year, at the very least.”<\/p>\n
Boak has frequently said he plans to return to Torquay and play for the Tigers seniors in his dad\u2019s #5 jumper once his AFL career is over.<\/p>\n
