FAMILIES in Geelong’s east will soon have a new place to play, with a fresh playground planned for Aldershot Reserve.<\/p>\n

Billed as a “district-level facility”, the new playground will feature an extensive range of equipment \u2013 including a junior play tower, swing set, trampoline and flying fox \u2013 far beyond that of the existing equipment.<\/p>\n

City of Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the new playground, expected in time for summer, will be an incredible addition to Aldershot Reserve.<\/p>\n

“From a ninja warrior course to nature play, the new playground will challenge and inspire children of all ages and abilities,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Current projections show the playground being open and ready for use in early November. We appreciate your patience during its construction.”<\/p>\n

Deconstruction of the reserve’s existing playground has already begun.<\/p>\n

Connecting and internal pathways, landscaping, new park furniture and drainage will be included in the works.<\/p>\n

The project forms part of the broader Aldershot Reserve masterplan<\/a>, endorsed by the council in 2021, and has already seen a new dog park constructed at the site<\/a>, with several other improvements on the horizon.<\/p>\n

Last month, the city announced the reserve would be the first in the region to receive an asphalt pump track<\/a> able to cater to BMX and mountain bike riders, as well as rollerbladers and scooter users.<\/p>\n

A new fitness area with adjustable equipment and an accessible public toilet are also slated for the site.<\/p>\n

Cheetham Ward councillor Melissa Cadwell, who has long championed the transformation of the reserve, said the improvements had already made a remarkable difference.<\/p>\n

“The new playground is yet another part of the new and improved Aldershot Reserve, which will make it a very valuable community facility for residents of St Albans Park and Whittington.<\/p>\n

“I’m also incredibly proud of the new playground with the accessible equipment, which is a significant improvement over the old playground.<\/p>\n

“We heard the feedback from the local community about what they wanted and needed at the reserve. It’s very exciting to be able to deliver on that.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
