A CEREMONIAL sod-turning has signified the start of works on the Chilwell Library redevelopment in Sladen Park.<\/p>\n

City of Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj joined Geelong MP Christine Couzens, the City\u2019s chief executive officer Ali Wastie, and representatives from Geelong Regional Libraries<\/a> and Chilwell Library Group<\/a> to mark the milestone.<\/p>\n

The $2.5 million project will transform the beloved library into a modern community hub while preserving its intimate, neighbourhood charm.<\/p>\n

The revitalised site will feature flexible meeting rooms, a welcoming outdoor deck, improved amenities including public toilets, and stronger connections to the surrounding park.<\/p>\n

Cr Kontelj said it was exciting to see construction getting underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cA great deal of thought and planning has gone into ensuring this upgrade is one that the whole community can enjoy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to welcoming the community back to a revitalised Chilwell Library next year.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ms Couzens said the modernisation would be a win for community access and inclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chilwell Library is a much-loved resource for the local community,\u201d she said. \u201cThis redevelopment will provide the community with a modern, accessible library to be enjoyed into the future.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Geelong Regional Libraries CEO Vanessa Schernickau said they couldn\u2019t wait to welcome people through the doors of the new space.<\/p>\n

\u201cPublic libraries are far more than bricks and books \u2013 they’re vital community hubs. Chilwell Library is the perfect example of that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
