FOOTY fans travelling to the MCG to watch the Cats battle the Lions in tonight\u2019s (Friday, September 5) qualifying final, will benefit from extra Geelong Line trains both before and after the game.<\/p>\n

An extra five city-bound trains will depart Geelong this evening to help fans get to the game, with services available every 10 to 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

Extra services are also scheduled to depart Wyndham Vale Station at 5.19pm and 5.46pm to boost capacity along the line.<\/p>\n

After the game, additional trains travelling through to Waurn Ponds will also run, with services to depart Southern Cross Station at 11.10pm, 11.22pm and 11.45pm.<\/p>\n

Extra carriages have also been added to the Southern Cross to Waurn Ponds services scheduled to depart at 11.30pm and 12.15am.<\/p>\n

V\/Line executive director of operations Sussanah Osborne said the added services ensured there were \u201cplenty of options\u201d for footy fans travelling to Melbourne this evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cServices will be popular as fans head to the game, so we encourage passengers to plan their travel in advance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams said the regional fare cap, introduced in 2023, had made it even easier for fans to get to the footy.<\/p>\n

The cap means passengers will pay $11 full fare and $5.50 concession to get to the MCG and home again this evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s more services running on the Geelong Line than ever before, making it easier for Cats and Lions fans to get along on Friday night, fill the MCG and support the start of their team\u2019s finals campaign,\u201d Ms Williams said.<\/p>\n

Passengers will be able to travel between Southern Cross Station and the MCG on a Metro Trains service to either Jolimont or Richmond stations.<\/p>\n
