{"id":120647,"date":"2025-09-12T12:59:48","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T02:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/two-local-vic-country-players-selected-for-futures-girls-showcase\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T12:59:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T02:59:48","slug":"two-local-vic-country-players-selected-for-futures-girls-showcase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/two-local-vic-country-players-selected-for-futures-girls-showcase\/","title":{"rendered":"Two local Vic Country players selected for Futures Girls showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A PAIR of local footballers will feature in this weekend\u2019s Marsh AFL National Futures Girls showcase match.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/st-marys-junior-continues-rapid-rise-with-all-australian-nod\/\">St Mary\u2019s Ava Bilyk<\/a> and Torquay\u2019s Greea McKeegan, who both play for Victoria Country, have both been picked in Team Conti, which will wear blue and green jumpers.<\/p>\n<p>The teams for the Marsh AFL National Futures Girls match have been named after Carlton forward and two-time AFLW leading goalkicker Darcy Vescio and Richmond midfielder and AFLW best and fairest Monique Conti.<\/p>\n<p>Team Vescio (in white jumpers) will be coached by Brad Snell and Team Conti will be coached by Tash Heffernan.<\/p>\n<p>The Marsh AFL National Futures program brings talented players from across the country together in a high-performance environment as they prepare to enter their draft year.<\/p>\n<p>All players selected in the 2025 Marsh AFL <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/four-geelong-falcons-named-in-futures-squads\/\">National Futures<\/a> squad are born in 2008 and will be eligible for selection in the 2026 Telstra AFLW Draft. Players were nominated by state talent programs, national selectors and AFLW club recruiters.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the players selected will go on to feature in the 2026 Marsh AFL National Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The Marsh AFL National Futures Girls squad features four members of the 2025 Marsh AFL National Championships U18 All Australian Team.<\/p>\n<p>Players will arrive in camp from tomorrow (Saturday, September 12) and will train at the NEC Hangar on Saturday morning in preparation for Sunday\u2019s match.<\/p>\n<p>Team Vescio and Team Conti will face off this Sunday, September 14 from 10am ahead of the AFLW Round 5 clash between Geelong and Richmond.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketmaster.com.au\/\">Ticketmaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A PAIR of local footballers will feature in this weekend\u2019s Marsh AFL National Futures Girls showcase match.
