A MAJOR milestone has been met for the Waurn Ponds community, with construction officially underway on the town’s newest hub of leisure and recreational activities.<\/p>\n

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence will visit the future site of the Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex today (Thursday, October 9) to announce the beginning of the multi-million-dollar project..<\/p>\n

“The Waurn Ponds Sports Complex will provide the local community with world-class facilities closer to home \u2014 also helping to improve health, wellbeing and connection,” Ms Spence said.<\/p>\n

The new complex<\/a> will feature six high-ball multi-sports courts, a regional-level gymnastics facility, community dance hall and studio and social spaces with kiosks and public lounge areas.<\/p>\n

Other facilities include a parent\u2019s room, Changing Places facility, sensory room and multi-faith room.<\/p>\n

Recognition of Wadawurrung Country is at the heart of the design, with the Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation informing the colour palette, materials, facade, artwork and landscaping.<\/p>\n

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney welcomed the start of construction on the facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a community dream taking shape,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Geelong and the Surf Coast grow, we\u2019re making sure our infrastructure grows with us.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a major step forward for local sport -boosting health, connection and opportunity across our region – and I\u2019m proud to see it underway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adco Construction has been appointed to deliver the project alongside Principal Design Consultants ARM Architecture.<\/p>\n

Construction on the new project is expected to be completed in early 2027.<\/p>\n

The Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex is one of five projects to be delivered in the Geelong and Surf Coast regions as part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Package, rolled out by the Victorian government in the wake of the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
