GEELONG Health Festival organisers are back for a second year, following the success of the inaugural event in 2024.<\/p>\n

This year’s event is returning on Saturday, October 25, bigger and better than before, filling the Bellarine Secondary College Learning Centre with more guest speakers and chances for education.<\/p>\n

Festival organiser Dr Jenny Huang said the main objective is for people to feel more connected to their local health service providers.<\/p>\n

“Seeing what people may not have been aware of before, bringing up-to-date, evidence-based topics right to the community’s doorsteps.<\/p>\n

“And helping the community to navigate what can otherwise be an extremely difficult situation where we’ve got so much information and yet feeling like we don’t have enough.<\/p>\n

“Being able to talk to someone in person and that community connection vibe is also really important, I would really like to bring that back following the pandemic.”<\/p>\n

This year’s program will feature a range of local providers and education and updates on important topics including the lung screening program and preventative medicine, oral cancer screening in primary care and public health in the Barwon South West.<\/p>\n

Also dropping into this year’s festival is Geelong Cats Rising Star winner Ollie Dempsey, who will be visiting stall holders, exhibitors and students volunteering on the day, while showing off his ball-handling skills.<\/p>\n

The larger venue for this year’s festival has allowed organisers to offer more hands-on activities, with Dr Huang excited to welcome Farm My School, an initiative she supports within the community.<\/p>\n

“I love how it really brings all together the social prescribing, the understanding of food sources, but also the circular economy and teens participating in and contributing to the community with food resources.”<\/p>\n

Activations from Active Geelong, Kieser and Rise and Shine studios are also taking place throughout the day, creating an opportunity for people to get some movement.<\/p>\n
