THE Changing Minds and Positive Ageing Expo is returning to Geelong for its second instalment on Friday, October 24.<\/p>\n

The inclusive event, to be held at Club Italia, has a strong focus on celebrating positive ageing and helping people gain access to the support\u00a0they need.<\/p>\n

“The expo strengthens our community by making local services more accessible and raising awareness about critical issues like elder abuse,” Barwon Community Legal Service chief executive officer Bryanna\u00a0Connell said.<\/p>\n

“It’s about empowering older people with the knowledge, support and connections they need to age with confidence and dignity.”<\/p>\n

Hosted in partnership with Dementia Agencies Network Geelong and the Barwon Elder Abuse Primary Prevention Network, the expo aims to set people up to continue living well as they age.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

More than 30 service providers and community groups within the region will be included in the free expo, engaging with local residents to help reduce isolation and encourage\u00a0ongoing connection.<\/p>\n

Keynote speakers Dr Alistair Mander and Dr Lisa Mitchell will also join the expo, alongside a panel of experts from local organisations.<\/p>\n

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in conversations and connect directly with providers to break down any barriers they have in participating and seeking support.<\/p>\n

Isolation and a lack of support can be contributing factors in cases of elder abuse, and access to key community services is essential.<\/p>\n

The expo also challenges ageism and how people view the ageing population.<\/p>\n

This year’s expo coincides<\/p>\n

with the Victorian Seniors Festival, highlighting the value of older people and the importance of community connection.<\/p>\n

The Changing Minds and Positive Ageing Expo will kick off at 11.30am and run until 2.30pm.<\/p>\n
