{"id":122992,"date":"2025-10-31T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=122992"},"modified":"2025-10-29T19:58:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T08:58:06","slug":"wet-ride-fails-to-disappoint-at-around-the-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/wet-ride-fails-to-disappoint-at-around-the-bay\/","title":{"rendered":"Wet ride fails to disappoint at Around the Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TOUGH conditions and wet weather weren&#8217;t enough to hold back the thousands of cyclists in this year&#8217;s United Energy Around the Bay ride.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place on Sunday, the annual event drew more than 6,000 riders of all ages and abilities across five different categories.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/DSC01603-gn8v6r_20179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 6,000 participants took part in this year&#8217;s ride, ranging across all ages and abilities.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the rain set in from mid-morning energy levels remained high across the event, with riders crossing the finish line with mud and smiles.<\/p>\n<p>In the 220km Classic Ride participants made their way from Melbourne&#8217;s Albert Park around the bay into Geelong and Queenscliff before catching the ferry to Sorrento and completing the circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Riders participating in the 135km event got their start in Geelong and joined those in The Classic across the ferry and finished in Albert Park.<\/p>\n<p>Bicycle Network chief executive officer Alison McCormack said United Energy Around the Bay was always a spectacular day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/JAS30264-677jz9_20150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cyclists had five different courses to choose from, with two bringing them into Geelong, through the Bellarine and over the ferry to Sorrento.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year riders tackled a dramatic wet ride with good cheer and enjoyed entertainment, vendors and food trucks at the Albert Park event village.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were thrilled to see such a range of ages and abilities on bikes and can&#8217;t wait to do it all again in 2026.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Participants included sporting celebrities, recreational cyclists and kids on balance bikes, with the youngest rider just a few months old and the eldest 93.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/IMG_7688-qujk5s_20217.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MAIN: Cyclists battled the wet weather throughout this year&#8217;s United Energy Around the Bay.
