THE Committee for Geelong has announced the appointment of Rebecca Bartel as chair and Brett Winter as deputy chair, following the organisation\u2019s 25th annual general meeting on Thursday last week.<\/p>\n
Ms Bartel is the first woman in CfG\u2019s history to hold the position of chair, and replaces Clive Pugh, who served as chair for six years.<\/p>\n
As executive director of strategic partnerships at Deakin University, she brings more than 25 years\u2019 experience across corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors, with expertise in strategy and risk, stakeholder engagement, commercialisation and governance.<\/p>\n
A graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Ms Bartel has served as deputy chair for the past four years.<\/p>\n
She is passionate about regional resilience and achieving sustainable, inclusive growth for Geelong over the long term, and is focused on designing Geelong\u2019s best future through collaboration, strategic leadership and data-driven solutions that deliver real community and economic impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeelong\u2019s future relies on good growth that is inclusive, sustainable and improves quality of life,\u201d Ms Bartel said.<\/p>\n

The chief executive officer of GeelongPort, Mr Winter\u2019s strong background in infrastructure and economic development, along with his commitment to regional growth and sustainability, aligns with the committee\u2019s strategic priorities.<\/p>\n
A passionate advocate for Geelong\u2019s long-term prosperity, he is committed to fostering collaboration between industry, government and community to ensure the region grows in a way that is inclusive, resilient and future-focused.<\/p>\n
Mr Winter recently concluded a term on the board of G21 Geelong Region Alliance, where he played a key role in advancing regional priorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs our region continues to grow, it\u2019s vital we harness strategic infrastructure, sustainability and collaboration to ensure that growth delivers lasting community and economic benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n
The committee also welcomed the appointment of Richard Hill as finance audit and risk management chair, having served on the board for the past three years; and Barwon Health chief strategy officer Anna Burgess as a new member of the board.<\/p>\n
Existing board members Joe Ormeno, Paul Robson and Wes Self were re-elected at the AGM, and Anne O\u2019Loughlin retired from the board.<\/p>\n
