{"id":123889,"date":"2025-11-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=123889"},"modified":"2025-11-19T18:38:54","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T07:38:54","slug":"kinders-help-to-make-a-difference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/kinders-help-to-make-a-difference\/","title":{"rendered":"Kinders help to make a difference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KINDERGARTENS across Geelong are leading the way with kindness, raising much needed funds for locals through the Meli Giving Tree Appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Workplaces, community groups and residents are being urged to follow their lead and get involved by donating or starting a team to fundraise.<\/p>\n<p>Now celebrating its 25th year, the annual Giving Tree Appeal is raising vital funds to support children, families and individuals who are facing challenges this festive season.<\/p>\n<p>Running until December 9, this year\u2019s campaign is shaping up to be one of the most important yet.<\/p>\n<p>With cost-of-living pressures continuing to mount, local community support service Meli is calling on Geelong to get behind the cause and help make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone \u2013 whether a workplace, community group, or individual \u2013 can support the campaign by fundraising or making a one-off donation.<\/p>\n<p>Meli chief executive officer Robyn Hayles said the Appeal was a powerful way for the Geelong community to come together and share kindness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Meli, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to buy a Christmas gift for their loved ones, have petrol in their car to visit family and be able to put a warm meal on the table,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny contribution, big or small, can make a difference to children, individuals and families in need this festive season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All money raised is converted into gift cards, giving recipients the freedom to choose how they would like to spend the funds.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Appeal raised $110,000 and supported more than 2,300 families and individuals across the region.<\/p>\n<p>St Albans Park Kindergarten leader Stacey McGinness said the community at her kinder were excited to join the annual appeal and support those in need at this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had families at our kindergarten that have experienced hardship so to be able to help out and give a little back is really special.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Talking to the children about the importance of helping others is something we incorporate into our curriculum all year, and we are proud to put this teaching into action through the Meli Giving Tree Appeal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Giving Tree Appeal is presented by Meli in partnership with The Sexual Assault &amp; Family Violence Centre.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s appeal is supported by Times News Group, the Anthony Costa Foundation, APCO Foundation, West Carr &amp; Harvey, GMHBA, The Paddock Bakery, Pixeld and Bay 93.9.<\/p>\n<p>To register your team or donate, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/meligivingtree.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>meligivingtree.org.au<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KINDERGARTENS across Geelong are leading the way with kindness, raising much needed funds for locals through the Meli Giving Tree Appeal.
