Photo: MCH\/MUSHROOM CREATIVE HOUSE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ceberano followed, part of a trio that sounded much bigger and louder thanks to clever use of drum and keyboard loops.<\/p>\n<p>Switching between keys and percussion, she played a breathless and eclectic &#8220;Australian Made&#8221; set that including her own hits (<em>Brave, Bedroom Eyes<\/em>), the hits from her younger days (<em>Out of Mind\u00a0 Out of Sight, I Hear Motion<\/em>) in pubs &#8211; &#8220;You were there, I saw you there!&#8221; she quipped to the crowd at one point &#8211; and hits from today&#8217;s Aussie artists (<em>Straight Lines, Chandelier, Joker &amp; The Thief<\/em>).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_175534\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-175534\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-175534\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/barnesy-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-175534\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kate Ceberano&#8217;s Ceberano&#8217;s &#8220;Australia Made&#8221; set was a collection of Aussie hits throughout the years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Barnes&#8217; Cold Chisel bandmate Moss was next and the two had talked about their performances beforehand &#8211; Moss took just<em> My Baby<\/em> and <em>Bow River<\/em> from Cold Chisel&#8217;s extensive catalogue in his set of blues-tinged rock.<\/p>\n<p>Icehouse delivered a set of all killer, no filler. Frontman Iva Davies obviously had a ball and enjoyed leading the band through bangers such as <em>Electric Blue, Crazy<\/em> and <em>Great Southern Land<\/em> as much as he did bantering with guitarist Paul Gildea.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_175541\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-175541\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-175541\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/barnesy-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-175541\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ian Moss feels the groove.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Hands up if you weren&#8217;t alive in 1978?&#8221; Davis asked the audience. &#8220;Oh lord,&#8221; he said as most hands went up, &#8220;that&#8217;s when I wrote this song.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Did they have pen and paper then?&#8221; Gildea snarked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No, I did it with goosequill and ink,&#8221; Davies shot back.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_175535\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-175535\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-175535\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/barnesy-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-175535\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Icehouse opened their set with Electric Blue.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Top of the bill, Barnes was in fine voice and told stories throughout his set.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8221;How the f*** are ya?&#8221; he greeted the roaring crowd. &#8220;Welcome to 1985! I remember it like yesterday&#8230; well, most of it like yesterday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He and his band played the 40-year-old album <em>For The Working Class Man<\/em> in roughly chronological order, saving the (almost) title track to the end.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_175537\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-175537\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-175537\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/barnesy-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-175537\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Barnes&#8217; band included wife Jane (third from left), on backing vocals and bagpipes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Enough of this new s***, let&#8217;s go back a few years,&#8221; he joked just before launching into <em>Flame Trees<\/em>, with the rest of the set comprising Barnes&#8217; solo material (<em>Too Much Ain&#8217;t Enough Love, Driving Wheels<\/em>), Cold Chisel favourites (<em>Khe Sanh, Merry Go-Round<\/em> featuring Moss on guitar and vocals) and guest appearances (wife Jane on backing vocals and bagpipes, daughter Mahalia on concert closer <em>Good Times<\/em>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JIMMY Barnes and some of his contemporaries took Geelong back to 1985 in an excellent concert stacked with talent on Saturday.
