GEELONG’S Premier Men’s Firsts got their season back on track with two important wins on the weekend against Kingston Hawthorn and Carlton.<\/p>\n
The Cats played the Hawks on Saturday in a rain-affected one-day clash, before taking on the Blues the next day in a shortened T20 match.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Kingston Hawthorn elected to bat first and finished at 5\/174 in a condensed innings that saw them face just 32 overs.<\/p>\n
Geelong had the same amount of overs to chase down their score and did so in just under 30 overs, with eight wickets in hand.<\/p>\n
Young gun Liam Blackford opened the batting and made an entertaining 85 runs that saw seven fours and three sixes, whilst skipper Joshua Larkin added an unbeaten 69 to secure the win.<\/p>\n
The rainy conditions on Sunday led to the match being adjusted under DLS rules.<\/p>\n
The Cats elected to bowl first, with Carlton finishing their 16 overs on 4\/138 which set a target score of 148.<\/p>\n
Despite a top order collapse, Eamonn Vines was the hero at seven and made an unbeaten 61, including hitting the winning runs on the second-last ball.<\/p>\n
With the two wins on the weekend, the Cats move to 4-3 and fifth on the ladder.<\/p>\n
The Cats now face another double-header tomorrow (Saturday, December 6), with two T20 clashes against Northcote and Melbourne University.<\/p>\n
The Seconds lost to the Hawks on Saturday, but beat the Blues on Sunday.<\/p>\n
In the Thirds, Geelong went down in a one-day clash, while the Fourths overcame the Hawks with eight wickets to spare in a one-day match at Kardinia Park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
