EMERGENCY services volunteers across Geelong’s north will receive new equipment and upgraded resources under the state’s largest-ever round of Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) funding.<\/p>\n
Lara MP Ella George last week announced the local recipients of this year’s program, which include Anakie CFA, Corio SES and the Geelong Coast Guard.<\/p>\n
The allocations will support a range of response capabilities across the northern suburbs and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n
Anakie CFA will receive $32,000 to purchase a hygiene trailer to support firefighters during lengthy incidents and deployments.<\/p>\n
Corio SES has been granted more than $6,500 to replace small items and electronic equipment essential to rescue operations, while the Geelong Coast Guard will benefit from more than $4,500 to support volunteer training.<\/p>\n
Ms George said the funding would strengthen the capacity of local emergency services groups and acknowledged the contribution volunteers make to community safety.<\/p>\n
“This investment will make a real difference here in Geelong’s north,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Investing in our volunteer emergency services is an investment in the safety and resilience of our communities. The Allan Labor Government is proud to support our dedicated volunteers with the resources they need to protect and serve Victorians.”<\/p>\n
Minister for Emergency Services Vicki Ward said volunteers continue to play a vital role across the state.<\/p>\n
“These grants are incredibly popular every year, and we’ll keep backing in our volunteers, helping them focus on what they do best \u2013 protecting lives and property,” she said.<\/p>\n
“With more funding on offer than ever before \u2013 almost double \u2013 we’re showing our determination to support our hardworking emergency services volunteers.”<\/p>\n
VESEP provides grants to help volunteer emergency groups purchase essential equipment and upgrade facilities, with the government matching every $2 for each $1 raised locally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
