{"id":124834,"date":"2025-12-13T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=124834"},"modified":"2025-12-12T10:14:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T23:14:10","slug":"newtown-restaurant-named-regional-dining-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/newtown-restaurant-named-regional-dining-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"Newtown restaurant named regional dining winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEWTOWN venue has taken out the top honour at the 2025 Golden Plate Awards, with local operators across the city recording strong results in this year&#8217;s statewide hospitality program.<\/p>\n<p>The Hamilton Group&#8217;s Woolstore restaurant, which opened in February, was named regional restaurant of the year last week.<\/p>\n<p>The judging panel praised its contemporary menu, technical execution, value for money and cohesive dining experience, describing the venue as &#8220;a smart and sophisticated&#8221; space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The menu is thoughtfully written and showcases a diverse array of ingredients, with a strong emphasis on local produce,&#8221; the panel said. &#8220;It reflects the creativity and technical skill of a confident kitchen team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Led by head chef, Eli Grubb \u2013 who won the Golden Plate for Best Chef in 2024 \u2013 the food flowed, the judges said, &#8220;out of the kitchen with superb timing&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Woolstore also won the contemporary dining award.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong venues feature prominently across several categories.<\/p>\n<p>The 18th Amendment Bar claimed the cocktail bar award, while Daisy Bar and Non Disclosure Bar were both highly commended.<\/p>\n<p>Cafe Go received the best coffee award, with Industry 26 highly commended.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/12\/allwinners2025_96339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Award recipients from the 2025 Golden Plate Awards, representing standout venues, chefs and operators from across regional Victoria. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The region also produced this year&#8217;s apprentice of the year, awarded to The Retreat&#8217;s Adam Peucker, while Ella Dumaresq of 18th Amendment Bar was named outstanding front of house winner.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Plate Awards director Pamela Jewson said the 2025 season reflected the &#8220;remarkable level of creativity, resilience and innovation&#8221; of the state&#8217;s hospitality sector.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Greater Geelong dining scene has never been stronger,&#8221; she said. &#8220;This year&#8217;s finalists demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to quality \u2013 from the paddock to the plate, from warm service to world-class food.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Customer service would be the outstanding factor that puts this region streaks ahead and, I believe, is on par with Melbourne&#8217;s finest.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/12\/chef_96357.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"542\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Woolstore&#8217;s kitchen is led by Eli Grubb, who won the Golden Plate for Best Chef in 2024.
