SANTA is back at Geelong’s historic Carousel as the city enters the final week of its Christmas countdown, drawing families to the waterfront as part of the broader Christmas in Geelong program.<\/p>\n

The annual Christmas at the Carousel series has already welcomed hundreds of visitors, with Santa returning to the much-loved landmark for a series of festive sessions featuring meet-and-greets, treat bags and Carousel rides.<\/p>\n

Mayor Stretch Kontelj said it was a tradition that felt uniquely Geelong.<\/p>\n

“The magic of having Santa stop by our much-loved Geelong landmark to spend time with families is special and unique to our city,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The joy the Carousel brings to so many people \u2013 young and old \u2013 is multiplied by Santa and the spirit of Christmas.”<\/p>\n

Sessions run in 45-minute morning and afternoon blocks, with bookings required. Each session includes a ride on the Carousel and a chance for children to meet Santa in a festive setting overlooking the waterfront.<\/p>\n

The surrounding foreshore has also become a focal point of the city’s Christmas celebrations, with the Floating Christmas Tree, summertime selfie mural and seasonal decorations helping to transform the waterfront into a festive precinct.<\/p>\n

“The waterfront is a fantastic festive precinct for all to enjoy at this time of year,” Cr Kontelj said.<\/p>\n

“If quieter moments of reflection and celebration are more your thing, venture to the City Hall projections, school Christmas trees at Johnstone Park or the Windows of the World exhibition on Yarra Street.”<\/p>\n

A traditional nativity scene is also on display at the Geelong Botanic Gardens until January 7.<\/p>\n

“For those of us who observe Christmas as a religious occasion, the nativity scene symbolises peace, love, joy and hope,” Cr Kontelj said.<\/p>\n

“One of the beautiful things about being part of a vibrant and diverse multicultural community is the many ways we celebrate.<\/p>\n

“We’ve proudly embraced tradition, culture and connection in our program for all to enjoy.”<\/p>\n
