{"id":125284,"date":"2025-12-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=125284"},"modified":"2025-12-18T18:38:53","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T07:38:53","slug":"surf-coast-classic-joins-uci-proseries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/surf-coast-classic-joins-uci-proseries\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf Coast Classic joins UCI ProSeries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE opening events in the next edition of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (CEGORR) has been upgraded in status and is now on par with some of the most famous racing in\u00a0world cycling.<\/p>\n<p>The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), which governs the sport globally, has listed the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s Surf Coast Classic (SCC) as ProSeries events in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The second tier of elite cycling, the UCI ProSeries features long-standing events such as the Brussels Cycling Classic, Scheldeprijs, Paris-Tours and the Tour of Britain.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s SCC are lead-in events to the main\u00a0CEGORR race.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-21966732_47802.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tobias Lund Andresen of Denmark (centre) wins the 2025 men&#8217;s Surf Coast Classic. Photo: DARIO BELINGHERI\/GETTY IMAGES<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both point-to-point rides will start in Lorne and finish in Torquay, with the men&#8217;s race on January 29 covering 157km and the women&#8217;s race on January 28 covering 118km.<\/p>\n<p>From the Lorne start, the courses feature a challenging 10km uphill climb inland towards Deans Marsh.<\/p>\n<p>Following the rolling roads of the Surf Coast and country towns, riders will navigate some tricky corners in the slightly downhill run into Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>Crossing Spring Creek, riders will turn left onto The Esplanade for what is often a thrilling sprint finish, such as the wins by Ally Wollaston (women) and Tobias Lund Andresen (men)\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-21966766_47772.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jardi Van Der Lee of Netherlands competes during the 2025 Surf Coast Classic 2025.
