{"id":125296,"date":"2025-12-18T19:42:38","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:42:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=125296"},"modified":"2025-12-18T19:49:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:49:08","slug":"extended-lifeguard-hours-announced-for-eastern-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/extended-lifeguard-hours-announced-for-eastern-beach\/","title":{"rendered":"Extended lifeguard hours announced for Eastern Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SWIMMERS at Geelong&#8217;s Eastern Beach will have lifeguard protection seven days a week this month, following an extension to patrol hours funded by the Victorian government.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong has confirmed weekday lifeguard coverage has been expanded at the Eastern Beach pool and dive tower, bringing forward the full-time coverage previously scheduled to begin next week.<\/p>\n<p>Lifeguards are now on duty on weekdays from noon to 5pm, in addition to existing weekend patrols until Sunday (December 21).<\/p>\n<p>From Monday (December 22), summer holiday hours will come into effect, with lifeguards monitoring the precinct daily from 10am to 7pm through to February 28.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/12\/LifeguardTimonduty1l_95003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lifeguards are now on duty on weekdays from noon to 5pm, in addition to existing weekend patrols until summer hours begin on Monday. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Outside these times, the pool and dive tower will remain open but unpatrolled.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the expanded coverage would provide greater peace of mind for locals and visitors during one of the busiest times of year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Safety is our top priority, and this change means swimmers can enjoy the water with confidence every day of the week,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With extra support from the Victorian government and Life Saving Victoria, we&#8217;ve been able to start weekday patrols earlier than planned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is great news for swimmers, given the precinct is identified as a high-risk area and drowning black spot.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SWIMMERS at Geelong&#8217;s Eastern Beach will have lifeguard protection seven days a week this month, following an extension to patrol hours funded by the Victorian government.
