{"id":125435,"date":"2026-01-02T04:00:51","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T17:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=125435"},"modified":"2025-12-19T10:52:59","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T23:52:59","slug":"elle-woods-steps-into-the-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/elle-woods-steps-into-the-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Elle Woods steps into the spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOOTLIGHT Productions will return to the Geelong Arts Centre stage this month with the feel-good musical Legally Blonde, bringing the much-loved story of Elle Woods to life in a high-energy show.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the hit film, Legally Blonde follows Elle Woods, a fashion-loving sorority queen whose world is turned upside down when her boyfriend dumps her to attend Harvard Law School.<\/p>\n<p>Determined to win him back, Elle charms her way into the prestigious university, only to discover her own potential along the way.<\/p>\n<p>The musical will enjoy an 11-show run between January 16 and January 31, and features a cast of 38 performers from Geelong and surrounding towns. Photo: MICHAEL CHAMBERS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She believes the enduring appeal of Legally Blonde related to its themes of empowerment and individuality.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the underlying themes and morals will always stand the test of time,&#8221; Dooley-Axup said. &#8220;There&#8217;s the fundamental need to belong, but without having to compromise who you are. And it&#8217;s really celebrating women and their own inner strength.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[The musical] really captures the general love that Elle Woods has for life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It takes all the wonderful themes of female empowerment and courage in embracing individuality and heightens it for the stage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Romeo, who plays mean girl Vivienne Kensington&#8217;s best friend Whitney in the production, said the stage adaption offered a modern take on the story, while expanding on fan-favourite characters from the film.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of the smaller, unsung characters of the original movie do get a bit more of a moment,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_177473\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-177473\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-177473\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/0G2A0747-copy-822x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"747\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-177473\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hayley Wood as Paulette, Morgan Dooley-Axup as Elle Woods and Maggie Van Krieken as Bruiser.
