{"id":125614,"date":"2026-01-13T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=125614"},"modified":"2026-01-07T17:56:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T06:56:21","slug":"sausage-dogs-steal-the-show-at-ghrc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/sausage-dogs-steal-the-show-at-ghrc\/","title":{"rendered":"Sausage dogs steal the show at GHRC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DACHSHUNDS will dash onto the track at the Geelong Harness Racing Club (GHRC) when the popular event returns on January 16.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its fourth year, the Dachshund Dash will again deliver a fun night of racing and a best-dressed competition, with dachshunds of all shapes, sizes and personalities taking part.<\/p>\n<p>GHRC general manager Joe Fiala said the family-friendly event regularly attracts more than 500 people and offers something a little different for the club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The excitement of the dachshunds going down the track is really fun,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The dachshunds race on the home straight of the harness racing tracks. It&#8217;s a great spectacle [with] the people lining the track and along the grass.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of families come along [and] enjoy the festivities &#8230; [and] they do come from afar to participate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/20250124_174546_16562.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"319\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Now in its fourth year, the Dachshund Dash will again deliver a fun night of racing at the Geelong Harness Racing Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many owners go to great lengths to dress their pets for the Fashions on the Field competition, adding to the colour and atmosphere of the night.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the dash, regular harness racing will take place, with face painting for kids, picnic areas and food vans also available.<\/p>\n<p>Dachshund Dash entries close on Sunday, January 11.<\/p>\n<p>For more information or to enter the race, contact the club on 5275 4880.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DACHSHUNDS will dash onto the track at the Geelong Harness Racing Club (GHRC) when the popular event returns on January 16.
