{"id":125752,"date":"2026-01-10T16:49:40","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T05:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/olympians-shine-at-lorne-pier-to-pub\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T16:55:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T05:55:01","slug":"olympians-shine-at-lorne-pier-to-pub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/olympians-shine-at-lorne-pier-to-pub\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympians shine at Lorne Pier to Pub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 5,000 swimmers hit the water for this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/45th-pier-to-pub-winners-crowned\/\">Lorne Pier to Pub<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/pier-to-pub-is-torquay-locals-newest-challenge\/\">1.2km open water swim<\/a> from the Lorne Pier to the finish line outside the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club again drew thousands of spectators and athletes of all ages and swim levels to the coastal town despite a Total Fire Ban stretching across Victoria.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_178115\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-178115\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-178115\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/p2p-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-178115\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2026 Pier to Pub Superfish winners Sam Short (left) and Lani Pallister.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the elite Superfish category, which took place earlier today (Saturday, January 10), Olympic gold medallist Lani Pallister claimed her seventh consecutive victory in the women\u2019s race, touching home in 12:50 in the 46th edition of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Olympian Sam Short took top honours in the men\u2019s division with an impressive time of 11:52.<\/p>\n<p>Short dethroned reigning champion Nick Sloman, who claimed second place with a strong finish in 12:24, as Dakoda Mathers followed suit in the women\u2019s event, taking second in 13:32.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_178117\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-178117\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-178117\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/p2p-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-178117\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some of the 5,000 swimmers at this year&#8217;s event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>William Petric rounded out the podium in the men\u2019s Superfish race, claiming third place in 12:39.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sophie Jacka delivered an impressive double effort.
