{"id":125868,"date":"2026-01-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=125868"},"modified":"2026-01-14T19:55:03","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T08:55:03","slug":"roadworks-scheduled-at-mt-pleasant-road-intersection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/roadworks-scheduled-at-mt-pleasant-road-intersection\/","title":{"rendered":"Roadworks scheduled at Mt Pleasant Road intersection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ROADWORKS will begin this month at a busy Highton roundabout, with changes planned to improve pedestrian safety and manage traffic speeds through the intersection.<\/p>\n<p>The roundabout, at Mt Pleasant Road and North Valley Road, will be upgraded to include raised pedestrian crossings on all four approaches.<\/p>\n<p>The works form part of a $495,000 project funded through the federal government&#8217;s Black Spot Program, which targets locations with a history of accidents with the aim of reducing serious injuries and fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade aims to improve access and safety for pedestrians while also reducing vehicle speeds and increasing driver awareness. As part of the project, the speed limit through the intersection will be lowered to 50km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to start this week and wrap up by the end of February. Image: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Geelong mayor Cr Stetch Kontelj said improving safety at busy intersections remained a priority for the council.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Improving safety at busy intersections like this one is important for our community and always a council priority,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This upgrade will make it easier and safer for people to move around Highton, whether they&#8217;re walking, driving or cycling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Barrabool Hills ward councillor Ron Nelson acknowledged the short-term disruption the works would cause.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know roadworks are inconvenient, so we really want to thank the Highton community and surrounding neighbourhoods for their understanding and patience,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We suggest allowing extra travel time or considering different routes while we deliver this essential upgrade.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROADWORKS will begin this month at a busy Highton roundabout, with changes planned to improve pedestrian safety and manage traffic speeds through the intersection.
