{"id":126191,"date":"2026-01-22T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=126191"},"modified":"2026-01-28T09:08:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T22:08:44","slug":"spencer-claims-third-straight-title-at-the-dachshund-dash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/spencer-claims-third-straight-title-at-the-dachshund-dash\/","title":{"rendered":"Spencer claims third straight title at the Dachshund Dash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHAMPION dachshund Spencer defended his title, sprinting to a third consecutive victory at the Geelong Harness Racing Club&#8217;s annual Dachshund Dash on Friday last week.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of spectators &#8211; and some additional dogs &#8211; flocked to the track to see dogs competing in a best dressed competition, and watch Spencer take out the coveted title in the dash.<\/p>\n<p>General Manager Joe Fiala said this year&#8217;s dash drew a big family crowd, with the lawn blanketed in picnic rugs, and kids cheering from the sidelines.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_126197\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-126197\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-126197 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/DachshundDash2_49675-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-126197\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Beau left the crowds in awe taking out both the best dressed and the second place trophy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It had a good family atmosphere,&#8221; he said. &#8220;People were sitting on the grass watching both the Dachshund Dash and the harness racing\u2026 The bistro and caf\u00e9 were full, the ice cream and doughnut vans did well &#8211; it was just a great night out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some children even had their faces painted to match their favourite dogs in the race.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen dachshunds competed across two heats, before the final where Spencer narrowly defended his crown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He only won by a nose,&#8221; Fiala said. &#8220;So now we&#8217;re looking for someone to come and knock Spencer off the podium.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_126332\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-126332\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-126332\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-scaled.jpg?_t=1769551491\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-scaled.jpg 1550w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-182x300.jpg 182w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-620x1024.jpg 620w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-768x1268.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-930x1536.jpg 930w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/Dachshund-Dash-1-1240x2048.jpg 1240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-126332\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rounding out the podium was Bonnie who took home third place.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In second place was Beau, who also stole the show by taking out the best dressed competition, dressed as a cowboy; and Bonnie rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<p>The event, sponsored by Pets Domain Leopold, awarded winners with trophies, sashes and a Pets Domain prize pack.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its third year, the Dachshund Dash has become a highlight of the summer calendar at the Geelong Harness Racing Club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a lot of returning dachshund owners who come every year,&#8221; Fiala said, &#8220;and plenty of new ones, too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/01\/DachshundDash4_49687.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crowds flocked to the Geelong Harness Racing Club for the Dash on Friday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The feedback has been fantastic.
