MORE sport, movement and physical activity will be part of the school day at two schools in Geelong’s northern suburbs under a new round of state government grants.<\/p>\n
Northern Bay College and Bell Park North Primary School have each secured $30,000 through the latest round of the Active Schools grant program.<\/p>\n
Lara MP, Ella George, said the grants, which are aimed at helping students building health, active habits at school, would make a tangible difference for local students.<\/p>\n
“These Active Schools grants will help local students at Northern Bay College and Bell Park North Primary thrive by delivering even more sports and activities throughout their day at school \u2013 in class, at recess and lunch time,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Through the Active Schools initiative, young people at these schools can find a sport or activity they love and support an active and healthy lifestyle.”<\/p>\n
The Active Schools program focuses on increasing movement throughout the entire school day, encouraging<\/p>\n
physical activity in the classroom, during breaks and on the journey to and from school.<\/p>\n
Since the program began in 2020, more than $25 million has been distributed to more than 500 schools.<\/p>\n
In previous funding rounds, schools have used grants to upgrade playgrounds, purchase sports equipment, build outdoor learning spaces, install sensory play areas and introduce activities such as dance or bicycle education.<\/p>\n
Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, said the grants were opening up new opportunities for students.<\/p>\n
“Every young Victorian deserves the chance to find their sport \u2013 whether that’s on the court, in the pool or on the bike track, these grants are opening doors to new opportunities,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
