ONE of Geelong Animal Welfare Society’s (GAWS) favourite annual traditions will make its return to the Geelong Waterfront next month.<\/p>\n

The 2026 PAWS for GAWS charity dog walk will take place on March 1 in support of vulnerable animals in the Greater Geelong community.<\/p>\n

The event invites dog lovers and community members of all ages to join a relaxed 4km walk, followed by festivities at the event hub.<\/p>\n

All funds raised through PAWS for GAWS go directly toward supporting GAWS’s vital work: providing shelter, care, veterinary support and rehabilitation for homeless, abandoned and surrendered animals.<\/p>\n

GAWS chief executive officer Helen Cocks said community support makes a meaningful difference to the lives of lost, surrendered and stray animals in the Geelong region.<\/p>\n

“As a community, when we walk together for a cause we all care deeply about, the impact goes far beyond one beautiful day,” Ms Cocks said.<\/p>\n

Participants are welcome to join with their dogs or simply walk alongside GAWS in support.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

“PAWS for GAWS is not just about dogs on leashes \u2013 it’s about the thousands of animals in need of care, shelter and a second chance.<\/p>\n

“The support we receive through this charity dog walk directly translates into care, medical treatment and brighter futures for the animals in our shelter. We are deeply grateful for our community.”<\/p>\n

GAWS’s shelter is a not-for-profit facility and relies entirely on the generosity of the community to continue its mission.<\/p>\n

Last financial year, more than 3100 animals arrived at GAWS needing care. It costs GAWS more than $65 a day to provide care for one animal.<\/p>\n

Registrations are now open and all registrants receive a PAWS for GAWS branded dog bandana and bumper sticker.<\/p>\n
