GEELONG pet owners will now have access to specialised animal physiotherapy for the first time, with the Melbourne Animal Physiotherapy Centre opening its doors in Hamlyn Heights.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2007 by Lauren Elliot, Melbourne Animal Physiotherapy initially operated out of Kensington before opening in Geelong earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Elliot began consulting out of Geelong Animal Emergency two years ago and explained that she experienced high demand, which led her to opening the first Centre of its kind in the region.<\/p>\n

“There’s so many services in Melbourne, but nothing down here at the moment.<\/p>\n

“The idea is to grow and help to offer the same in Geelong.”<\/p>\n

The centre offers facilities and programs including hydrotherapy, laser therapy and prosthetics, with the freshly renovated space also holding multiple consulting rooms and two underwater treadmill rooms.<\/p>\n

“Pretty much anyone and everything can benefit from physio, just like humans,” Elliot said.<\/p>\n

“We often see post-surgical dogs, or dogs that have had major injury. We guide and support the owners to get them back on track again.<\/p>\n

“If we can prevent injuries, that’s even better.<\/p>\n

“It can be anything and everything \u2013 we’ve even seen a lamb for a wheelchair fitting, we see rabbits and cats all the time as well, so it’s not just dogs.”<\/p>\n

The space is presently open on limited hours, with Elliot planning to operate full-time following an Open Day on March 22.<\/p>\n

She said the Open Day would be a great way for the local community to see what Melbourne Animal Physiotherapy would bring for pet owners and professionals alike.<\/p>\n

“We’re going to have lots of prizes and giveaways and lots of demos, so people can bring their dogs and they can try a hydro or physio session and see how their pets respond to that.<\/p>\n

“It’s just making sure people are aware that it’s an option.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully we’ll grow and grow from there, the idea is to have all the rooms busy and full.<\/p>\n

“We do offer training for any human physios out there who are wanting to move into that space, we can bring them in and nurture them and mentor them into this space as well.”<\/p>\n
