{"id":127027,"date":"2026-02-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=127027"},"modified":"2026-02-12T10:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T23:54:09","slug":"top-iron-competitors-dazzle-in-lorne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/top-iron-competitors-dazzle-in-lorne\/","title":{"rendered":"Top iron competitors dazzle in Lorne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 200 of the country&#8217;s top iron competitors took to the water in the Lorne 5,000 World Ocean Series event at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The national qualifying series event brought together top ocean athletes from across Australia and beyond for a thrilling day of racing.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors ranged from Under 13 Boys and Girls all the way through to senior surf lifesavers in the twilight of their careers.<\/p>\n<p>The premier Open Ironman event was taken out by Alexandra Headland surf lifesaver Thomas Lewis, while sporting legend Lizzie Welborn reigned supreme in the Open Women&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Lorne SLSC competitions manager Brent Enticott said it was a fantastic day out for all involved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The racing was just perfect with great surf conditions and just enough waves to make it really interesting.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/02\/41ecbe06-_51242.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L-R: The podium getters for the Open Women&#8217;s Iron event.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was great to have competitors from all over the country join us, including Lizzie Welborn who dominated the women&#8217;s events.
